Vtg 60's Wilson Basketball Shorts Marshall U High School Mpls MN maroon sz 32

Description

Vintage high school basketball uniform shorts maroon with blue and white. Wilson brand- made in USA.  The knit shorts feature the classic old school style waist with belt and loops/ silver adjustable buckle. Marshall U- short for Marshall University- was a Minneapolis school that is no longer.  I was told that the uniforms ( I acquired several, some in white with maroon and blue and some in maroon with white and blue) were used for high school team until they got new uniforms and these were made smaller/ altered to fit the junior high team. I reversed the alterations to return this pair of shorts back to its original size. I estimate it to be from the 1960's and they were probably in use up until the school closed in the early 80's. Check back with my listings as I will be adding more same era basketball uniform shorts and jerseys from this same team. ( note: this one pair is slightly different from the others - it does not have satin at the waist and the fabric feels a bit different- perhaps poly instead of nylon) UPDATE: this is the last pair of shorts left.
Fun facts :
*Marshall-University High School was a public 6-12 and High School in Minneapolis founded in 1968 and was open until 1982
*The Marshall U boys basketball team won the Class A Minnesota State High School League basketball state title in 1976- so the uniforms were part of that state victory :)
* Actress Lea Thompson is an alum of Marshall U.
Measurements: The shorts are labeled as a size 32, but please refer to the measurements. Shown photographed on male mannequin with 30 waist and hips 37- it took a little bit of effort to get the shorts on past the hips, but fit once on. The shorts measure as follows:
Waist of the shorts: 25" un stretched / 36 max stretched. Has adjustable belt buckle for the waist
Hips: 41"
Top of short to the bottom at the sides= 12"  ( short shorts!)
Condition- I would say overall this pair to be in the best condition of the ones I have listed. Some thread snippets from removing the alteration stitching. Elastic is still quite viable. These have seen quite a bit of court time over several decades, but despite that, they are still quite strong and wearable.  A fun example of basketball uniform fashion history.
