    Description

    ITEM:
For your consideration is a restoration Bridgeport Boy Scout hatchet and a Western Frontiersman Boy Scout hunting knife plus a custom combo sheath.
The hatchet, as mentioned, is a Bridgeport from 1948-1960. The head was badly rusted and pitted. It was sanded then polished, progressing from 200 grit to 1500 grit however there is still some  light mottling and pitting.  The handle isBlack canvas micarta, epoxied and screwed together with Loveless bolts. It is a little thicker than the original handle scales.
The Western Official Scout knife has the First Class insignia which puts it in the same time frame as the hatchet. Also rusty it, was also polished the same way and has some light pitting and light scratches from previous abuse. The handle is matching black canvas micarta with red micarta liners.
The custom sheath is heavy 8 oz leather stained British tan then mink oiled.  The fold over knife sheath allows me to extend a "spine" up through the hatchet portion for added strength.  All edges were first glued then riveted and hand stitched with heavy 4 ply waxed thread.  There is a thick welt for the hatchet bit, all edges were sealed and all leather finally treated with Resolene.
New leather is stiff and the sheath is tight for the hatchet but will loosed given wear and time.
The Scout stamp is not official but a facsimile of the one used prior to 1954.
GREAT gift for a Scoutmaster, Eagle Scout or...?
