Here is a 1937 26" by 14" deep, 10 lug Ludwig Universal (see badge) line Bass Drum, with all original hardware ( the lug and tension rod set up is one solid T rod going through a claw that tightens on the wood hoop on one side of the drum and runs over the width of the drum to another claw on the other side wood hoop.   This vintage set up allows for the tightening of both heads from the one side of the drum.)
The drum itself is made of three plys, mahogany, maple and mahogany.    The interior is not painted or treated (for full resonance of the thin shell) Inside the drum is a light bulb, attached to a brace attached to a cord that runs out of the drum through one of the vent holes, which if plugged into power, brightly lightens the interior of the drum such that that landscape hand painted at the factory upon the original calfskin front head stands out prominently.    Research revealed that the particular cabin in the woods scene was one of about 8 choices  during a limited run of several years of now vintage, and indeed antigue drums. There is no rust to be found on this drum.  The hardware could use a good polishing, though..
As was more often the case than not, the measurement regarding the drums head dimension of 26" is off by a good 7/16 of an inch.   This posed no problem regarding size calfskin head to place on the batter side, which were often custom fitted/adjusted to the circumference of the drum.    My interest in this drum as a package was for display, and its projected  increase in value as a collectible.
Suffice it to say that a 1937 Ludwig three ply bass drum, such as the one I'm listing with original hardware, and original hand painted front head is a finer, better sounding bass drum than could be made today.   Even unplayed, it is fine musical instrument art!
This is truly a rare opportunity to purchase an icon of days gone by.    I'm listing this for a 10 day period no reserve auction.   Start bid price is 0.00.  I took a break from preparing this listing and searched for a similar bass drum on Ebay.   There was not a single vintage drum that was equipped with a factory original hand painted calf skin head.
