Availability: 100 in stock

Description

1862 cover with indistinct Indianapolis Indiana CDS, endorsed by the 89th Indiana Regiment, marked Due 3 and on the reverse a black PASSED / CAMP MORTON parole camp examined censor handstamp.  This is the only reported example, ex-Amos.
This cover is illustrated and written up on pages 233, 266 and 267 of J. David Baker's, The Postal History of Indiana, Volume I.  The documentation in Baker's book is part of this listing's description.
Baker notes this cover came with no letter but a prior owner provided a letter from the same Prince correspondence and it is included in this lot and is imaged with this listing.  It is from the same correspondence and of the same era but it did not originate with the cover.  The letter has light bends that do not match the light bends in the cover.
Full and clean cover, some toning, light vertical bends.  See images with this listing.
