    The South Carolina Rail Road was extensively damaged during the Civil War, and they issued these beautifully engraved Certificates of Indebtedness to raise capital for repairs and operating expenses. Printed by the American Bank Note Company in the finest manner, they look like the paper money that the South Carolina Rail Road issued during this time period, and they may have circulated as money. 8 1/2" by 4 1/2". Some light age toning at the edges, punch cancelled, otherwise Almost Uncirculated.
